Q. I am pouring a 12x13foot slab for my hottub under my deck. I have scheduled a concrete pump trailer and 2 friends to help. I will be pouring in contact with my exterior foundation of my home. what should I use for a expansion joint against the foundation? and second how do I screed with no form boards on two of the four sides of my slab, as those my slab will be in a corner of my foundation? Love your site. Thank you. Rick

A. You can use a product called Iso-strip. I have a page about this material here.

We wet screed the concrete when we don't have a form to screed from. This takes practice in order to get the concrete level without digging in or creating a hump. You could nail a pressure treated 2x4 onto the foundation and use this to screed from and as an isolation joint.
