I use a laser level to set my finish floor grade four inches above the sub-grade. I mark the foundation wall with a pencil and the grade stick that has a receiver on it. The receiver reads the laser beam from the laser level and tells me when I'm at the right height. I mark the bottom of the grade stick and use these marks to snap a chalk line at the finished concrete floor height. I use the chalk line during the pour to mag float my wet pads around the perimeter of the basement floor. I make a wet pad in the middle of the floor using the laser level and grade stick to use as my floor level while I screed. The wet pad in the middle is the same level as the outside perimeter. After screeding the floor, I bull float the concrete to smoothen the surface and prepare the concrete floor for the finishing process.
