Pouring A Concrete Slab In Freezing Temperatures (Cold Weather Concrete)

#everythingaboutconcrete #MikeDayConcrete In this video I'm pouring and finishing a concrete slab with the temperatures starting below freezing. Pouring concrete in below freezing temperatures requires a few things. 1. Experience doing it successfully for many years 2. Understanding how concrete reacts in sub-freezing temps. 3. Using the right concrete mix design for pouring in cold weather. 4. Pouring on top of styrofoam (helpful but not necessary) Concrete will freeze if you don't take precautions and understand how it sets up in these temperatures. You'll want to make sure the concrete mix is batched with hot water. The concrete will drop in temperature very quickly after you get it poured out of the truck and levelled off. Jump starting heat of hydration and concrete set times will depend on how warm the concrete is when you go to pour it on the ground. Having an insulated sub-base (like styrofoam) helps dramatically as you can see in the video. If you pour on a very cold sub-base, even with warm concrete, your set times will increase and you'll be there a lot longer finishing the concrete.
