Q. I have a black hard floor in my house which was under the carpet in a home built in Ca in the late 50's. Is this hard black floor cement?
A. Obviously without looking at it, there is now way I can tell for sure. It's more likely hardwood, tile, vinyl or linoleum. If you can look at an edge near a wall it would be kind of rough or maybe chipped if it was concrete.
You may able to tap the edge with a hammer and chisel to break off a tiny piece. If you see sand or aggregate, it's probably concrete or mortar.
