Pouring concrete over wood floor

by ST
(Alabama)

Q. I have took up my carpet and foam, cleaned my subfloor and I would like to pour cement. Should I put an anti fracture peel and stick membrane down on the wood then pour cement? How thick should my cement floor be?

A. Concrete weighs 25lbs per square foot when it is 2" thick. You would have to have an engineer check your sub-floor to make sure it would support this kind of weight.

If it would then 2" is minimum, 3" would be better (but more weight). Saw contraction joints about every 6' to help control cracking.
